REFEREES

At North Otago Rugby, referees are one of our most valued and crucial volunteer groups.

Games simply cannot go ahead without them, and their contribution is vital to the smooth running of every match at all levels.

From those controlling premier games to the Mum or Dad coaches who find themselves with a whistle in hand, each and every referee plays a key role in ensuring the game is played fairly, safely, and in the spirit of rugby.

It’s important that referees are well supported on and off the field. They deserve courtesy and respect from both players and spectators, as their role is central to maintaining the integrity of the game. Whether they’re making tough calls or ensuring that the game flows smoothly, their work helps create a positive experience for everyone involved.

We encourage everyone in the rugby community - players, coaches, and supporters alike, to show respect and appreciation for the referees who dedicate their time and energy to making rugby possible for us all.
